It was 1920 when the first adult men’s team was formed in Grundisburgh, playing early games on land behind the church and the ‘Reading Rooms’ opposite The Dog Public House were used as changing rooms.  We moved to the current location to play matches in the early 1930’s, on land provided by Lord Cranworth for cricket and football.  In 1939 Lord Cranworth donated the land to the village, via the National Playing Field Association as a recreation and sports field, signing the final conveyance in 1939.  During WW2 there was a football match at the playing field between Grundisburgh and prisoners of war who were based at Debach and walked to Grundisburgh to play.  All around the pitch it was 3 deep of spectators and rumour has it that Bert Trautmann played for the prisoners!  Full history of the club can be seen in some pictures on the pavilion walls and also in albums kept behind the bar.
